Invitation X-Bretagne to Didier Holleaux's conference : Energy and gas: from the crisis to the transition towards decarbonated gases

The Ponts Ouest and Ponts Maritime groups invite you to attend the next conference organized by X-Bretagne:

A lecture by Didier Holleaux

Energy and gas: from crisis to transition to low-carbon gases

December 3 at 6:30pm in the ECAM Louis de Broglie amphitheatre

X Bretagne invites you to attend a talk by Didier Holleaux, X79, a graduate of the Corps des Mines, with 30 years' experience in the gas industry, most of it with the Engie Group, and author of "La vraie histoire du gaz" published by Cherche Midi.

Glass of friendship at the end of the conference. Didier will dedicate his book to listeners who bring their own copies. (Invited bookshop on site, and available online).

Come one, come all.

Didier began his career as an engineer in the automotive and oil industries.

After a career in government service, ending as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Energy in 1993, he joined the Gaz de France group, which became ENGIE in 2015. After a career in gas transport and storage, exploration/production, LNG and distribution (EDF GDF Services at the time), in France and internationally, he has been Executive Vice President of ENGIE since July 1, 2015. He was Chairman of the Eurogas Association from 2021 to 2024.

The aim of this conference is to tell the real story of gas, from the inside, and to decipher the technical and geopolitical issues that have been, and still are, behind every major decision:

The gas industry was beginning a programmed transition to renewable gases, but Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 appears to be one of the major events triggering the recent gas crisis, which itself is part of a series of upheavals in the gas industry since the 1950s. In a context made unstable by two decades of haphazard European energy policy, Russia has created a real shortage situation, forcing Europeans to adapt their sources and means of supply. The question of energy independence has become a priority, and our fellow citizens are becoming increasingly concerned.

While this crisis has been widely publicized, the scenario that led to this breaking point is worthy of suspense novels.

Didier will review the evolution of the European and global gas markets, and the key factors that have led European countries to face unprecedented and even critical energy situations. He will also talk about how the green gas revolutions - biomethane, e-methane, hydrogen, etc. - offer answers to the security of supply, geopolitical, climatic and social challenges that humanity is now facing. The need for an integrated approach to energy management has never been greater, so as to develop the resilience that is essential in the face of energy and climate crises.

We hope to see many of you at this conference, followed by the traditional "verre de l'amitié"! Spouses welcome. Registration required.
