Scheduled for completion in time for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Franchs-Moisins footbridge will provide an accessible link for pedestrians, people with reduced mobility and cyclists between the three neighborhoods of La Plaine, Francs-Moisins and Bel-Air, in Saint-Denis.
Crossing the Saint-Denis canal, the footbridge will in the short term provide privileged access to the Olympic infrastructures - Stade de France, Olympic Aquatic Center - from the east side.
AlongsideExplorations Architecture (Architect) andAugust (Landscaper), the main contractor schlaich bergermann partner proposed a singular design, re-using the steel deck and foundations of the pre-existing movable bridge, whose opening mechanism was dysfunctional and whose demolition was initially planned.
With the project nearing completion, two employees of schlaich bergermann partner are delighted to present the specifics of this in-situ reuse engineering structure, as well as their feedback.
