Description

Originally built on a derelict wasteland on Belleville hill, the large vessel on rue de Mouzaïa, with its expressive concrete facades, is a remarkable example of the Brutalist architectural movement of the second half of the 20th century. In 2015, the RIVP program called for the former offices of the French health insurance fund to be converted into accommodation for students, young professionals, artists and coworkers.

Interior insulation, coupled with new windows, ensures the thermal and acoustic performance of the envelope, visually identical to that of 1974.

The project complies with the environmental objectives of the City of Paris Climate Plan, Patrimoine Habitat & Environnement certification and the BBC Effinergie Rénovation label.

The quality of the original plans largely influenced the architects' design for the transformation of office space into 172 apartments, without modifying the main structures of the building. The preservation of facades, floors, corridors, staircases and lighted landings confirms that there is no need to destroy existing architecture in order to convert it in an agile manner. The large stock of heritage built over the last two centuries, whether remarkable or ordinary, becomes a challenge for the future... Repairing.
