[Network Info] Webinar "Offsetting carbon with trees and forests: what are the benefits and limits of this approach?"
Organised by "Environment"
The X-Environnement group is pleased to invite you to the webinar
"Offsetting carbon through trees and forests:
what are the benefits and limits of this approach?"
In the three-stage "Avoid, Reduce, Compensate" approach to the environmental impacts of economic activities, carbon offsetting by creating forests comes into play in the third stage. Planting forests effectively captures carbon from the ambient air in the vegetation, but current practice raises a series of questions. How can it be linked with the first two stages? Can we estimate the decarbonization performance of carbon offsetting today? How does the certification process work, and what is it used for? How can we ensure that forests remain protected over the long term? What is the usable deposit, and when will it be saturated?
To explore these questions, we invited :
- Alice Valiergue, from the Centre de Sociologie des Organisations (Sciences Po/CNRS)
- Alain Karsenty, from CIRAD
- César Dugast, from Carbone 4
The webinar will be moderated by Jean-Michel Servant, President of France Bois Forêt, and board member of X Environnement.
