A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique (1980), the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (1985) and with an MSC in Transportation from MIT - the Massachussets Institute of Technology - (1986), Thierry Mallet has been Chairman and CEO of the Transdev group since September 2016.

He began his career in 1987 as head of the department in charge of freeway operations in Ile-de-France at the French Ministry of Public Works.

In 1990, he joined Générale des Eaux, where he held various positions:

• Deputy Director, South Paris Region (1990 - 1991)
• Special advisor to the General Manager (1991-1993)
• Special advisor to the CFO of SARI/SEERI (1993-1994)
• Managing Director, Water in Spain (1995-1997)
• General Manager of the Water subsidiary in the USA (1997-1999)
• Executive Vice-President of Vivendi Water Systems in charge of Europe (2000-2002)
  

He joined the Suez group in 2002, holding the following positions:

• Chief Operating Officer of Degremont (2003) then Chief Executive Officer from 2004.
• In 2009, he was appointed Director of Suez International until 2013, then Director of Innovation, Marketing and Industrial Performance.
  

He is also

• since April 2018, Chairman of GITL (Groupement Interprofessionnel du Transport et de la Logistique) and member of the Medef Executive Council,
• since October 2019, President of UTP (Union des Transports Publics et ferroviaires).
