Ponts Industrie conference: "ArcelorMittal and the steel industry face the challenge of the energy transition".
Organised by "Industry Group (French)"
On January 27, between 7 and 8 p.m., by video conference, we will have the pleasure of welcoming Matthieu Jehl, General Manager of ArcelorMittal France:
- What are the Group's main plants in France? What about research centers?
- What are the technologies of the future for the steel industry? Will steel and energy prices remain high in the long term?
- How can we turn the corner on green innovation? Are new green steel production processes possible (hydrogen, green methane, etc.)?
- Under what conditions can we maintain raw materials industries in Europe? Is a border carbon tax credible?
- What careers are there for young engineers interested in the steel industry?
We'd like to talk to you about these concrete issues for the future of a sector and one of its emblematic companies.
ArcelorMittal is a global steel group. It is the world's largest steel producer, with 96 million tonnes produced in 2018. It is ranked 156th in the 2016 Fortune Global 500 ranking of the world's largest companies and employs nearly 200,000 people.
In France, the group has almost 16,000 employees, 40 plants and 3 R&D centers.
Matthieu Jehl, 43, is an engineer from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and holds a Master's degree in Economics from Sciences Po Paris and an MBA from London Business School. After working as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, Matthieu Jehl joined ArcelorMittal in 2002. After working as a project manager and then supply chain and business development manager in various Group entities, he joined ArcelorMittal Europe - Flat Products in 2011 and was appointed CEO of ArcelorMittal's Eisenhüttenstadt plant (Germany). In 2014, he took over responsibility for the Ghent site (Belgium) before being appointed CEO of the Ghent-Liège cluster in April 2016 and then of the Italy cluster at the end of 2017. Since early 2020, Matthieu Jehl has been Executive Chairman of John Cockerill Énergie.
