Can we imagine the ocean in 2048? 

Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, French Ambassador for the Poles and Maritime Issues (following in the footsteps of Michel Rocard and Ségolène Royal), writer and author of numerous works on the sea and sailors, has given a positive answer to this question in his latest nature-fiction novel, entitled “Deux étés par an” (Two summers a year), published by Stock in January.

As special envoy of the French Head of State to the United Nations, he is preparing the next Conference on the Oceans in Nice in June 2025, and is coming specially to ECAM Rennes on May 14 to talk to us about his missions, convictions and questions. He will be answering our questions.

This evening will be an opportunity to highlight the social and environmental importance of maritime issues for sustainable nature, including the threats posed by rising sea levels, the role of seawater in the planet's climate control, the opportunity for harmony between marine species and peoples, and the need to project to our children images of a future for marine spaces and the maritime domain, admittedly uncertain, but in which the living world, nature and mankind still coexist.
