Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saint-Gobain, in his book Le Défi Urbain (The Urban Challenge), outlines a panorama of the many challenges that need to be met if cities are to become liveable again, or even if we are to "rediscover the desire to live in cities".

Pierre-André de Chalendar has built Saint-Gobain into a world leader in building materials for the ecological transition that is now upon us.Convinced of the city's new future, he proposes to redefine an urban model that favors social inclusion and places all innovative projects within a participatory logic, the true signature of the "sustainable city". A model where nature and the city are no longer in conflict, where mobility is fluid and carbon-free; and where sustainable, high-performance buildings provide comfort and health, and respond to aspirations - reinforced by the health crisis - to live better, together.

ACADI has invited Pierre-André de Chalendar to talk to us about the genesis of his book and the solutions he proposes to these challenges. We therefore invite you to an exceptional event. It will take place on Thursday December 1st at 6.30pm at the Saint Gobain Group headquarters in Paris La Défense.

Pierre-André de Chalendar will be talking to Julien Villalongue, Director of Leonard (VINCI Group).

As with our previous events, we'll be putting together a panel of students and professionals with whom the speaker will engage in dialogue as well as with the audience. We've invited students from Ecoles des Mines (Paris, Saint Etienne, Nancy), ESTP, ESSEC and Sciences Po Finance to join the panel.

Pierre-André de Chalendar, a graduate of ESSEC and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration, is a former Inspecteur des Finances.He was Deputy Director General for Energy and Raw Materials at the French Ministry of Industry. Pierre-André de CHALENDAR joined Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in 1989 as Planning Director, then Vice President of Abrasives Europe from 1992 to 1996, President of the Abrasives Division from 1996 to 2000, and Managing Director for the United Kingdom.General Manager for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland from 2000 to 2002, Deputy Managing Director of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in charge of the Building Distribution Sector in 2003. Appointed Chief Operating Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in May 2005, then elected Director in June 2006, Chief Executive Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain.Chief Executive Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in June 2007, then Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in June 2010 until June 2021. Since July 2021, Pierre-André de Chalendar has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain. Pierre-André de Chalendar is also a Director of BNP Paribas and Veolia, and Vice-Chairman of Entreprises pour l'Environnement (EpE), which he chaired from 2012 to 2015.Since July 2017, he has been Co-Chairman of La Fabrique de l'industrie and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ESSEC since February 2019.

Julien Villalongue, Director of Leonard, VINCI's foresight and innovation platform. A graduate of the École Centrale de Nantes and Sciences Po Paris, he joined VINCI in 2012 after holding positions in telecoms and public development aid.
