Tour of Rue de la République "from its creation to the present day".
Organised by "Rhône Alpes"
visite-rue-de-la-republique-
Thursday March 31 at 6:45pm, a tour of the Rue de la République "from its creation to the present day" by guide Nicolas Bruno Jacquet, who gave us a tour of the Hôtel Dieu in 2020.
The tour will be followed by dinner at the Café des Fédérations.
During the Second Empire, Napoleon III commissioned Prefect Vaïsse, like Haussmann in Paris, to regenerate the historic heart of Lyon. The first major project was the Rue Impériale, now Rue de la République, a kilometer-long thoroughfare linking Place de la Comédie to Place Bellecour. At 21 meters wide, this major thoroughfare was designed to meet the functional and commercial needs of the capitalist city, while at the same time displaying a meticulous aesthetic. Let's take a stroll along this great artery to observe its architecture and the link between the ancient and modern city.
Meet at 6.30pm at the foot of the statue of Louis XIV in Place Bellecour for a 6.45pm departure.
Please note: as places are limited, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
