Over the past ten years, the evolution of electricity networks has accompanied the multiplication of new means of production. Networks have become more active, more intelligent, more connected, and more efficient in terms of reducing energy losses.

Jean-Baptiste Galland will talk about the passive measures (insulation) and active measures (demand flexibility) that need to be implemented jointly. 35 million residential, commercial and industrial consumers are connected to the ERDF network. All these consumers will be equipped with smart meters by 2020. However, a number of questions remain:

- What role should the distributor play in the intelligent, efficient and sustainable use of electricity?

- What role should the distributor play in monetizing flexibilities?

- What lessons can be learned from the French and European demonstrators in which ERDF is participating?

- Where do we stand with meter deployment?

Xavier Moreau will focus on network technologies, highlighting how, in the age of Smart Grids, it is possible to save energy by modernizing electricity distribution networks.

Differentiated solutions enable technical losses to be reduced at various levels, in substations and lines. This optimization is made possible by the use of field instruments, which provide a better understanding of energy flows.
